Govt. Fatima Jinnah College is the only one of its kind which is striving to enlighten the dark and narrow lanes of the walled city with the light of knowledge, awareness and moral values. It is catering to the educational needs of the females of the walled city by providing quality education at low fee as compared to other autonomous colleges. It is an institution which has faithfully followed the high purpose of imparting quality education with a commitment that implies not just teaching a few courses but also aiming at the comprehensive development of the personality of the students. A mix of excellent academic education, ample opportunities for extracurricular activities including sports and singular emphasis on discipline and moral training equips the students to face the challenges of the world confidently. Introduction
Government Fatima Jinnah College for Women was established in 1986 to cater the needs of the female inhabitants of the Walled City of Lahore. It was upgraded in 1992 as a Degree College. In 1997 it was made an Autonomous Institution and Masters Classes also commenced in the same year. Graduate and Post-Graduate Classes are affiliated with the University of the Punjab. The College offers a wide range of subjects for students at under-graduate as well as graduate level in both Science and Humanities. Historical Background
This College is a unique institution that represents the history of Lahore. In the 17th century, during the Mughal period, this building was the Haveli of Asif Jah who was the Governor of Lahore, the brother of Queen Noor Jehan and the father of Queen Mumtaz Muhal. During the Sikh Period, It was the Haveli of Dhayan Singh who was a senior minister of Raja Ranjhit Singh and during the British Raj, the building was used for administrative purposes. The Old ‘Haveli of Asif Jah’ covering an area of 42 kanals was converted into an academic institution.
